Minecraft: Java or Bedrock?
Your devices and your friends’ edition determine which version fits your group.
Java for PC groups
Java Edition runs on Windows, macOS and Linux. A group using Java modpacks or a Java server needs compatible Java versions. Check the actual modpack’s requirements rather than assuming every version will work.
Bedrock across devices
Bedrock is available on Windows, consoles and mobile devices. Playing together depends on compatible versions and platform requirements. Java and Bedrock clients do not automatically join the same ordinary server.
Agree before choosing
Write down devices, edition, game version and the intended server. Check what a product package actually includes. Owning Minecraft does not by itself mean that a particular device or edition can join your friends’ world.
