Back up a Minecraft world before moving servers
Plan a way back before opening a migrated world to the whole group.
Document the setup
Record edition, game version, server software and installed plugins or mods. Locate the world files and configuration. Java and Bedrock worlds are not directly interchangeable; follow instructions for your actual software.
Create a usable backup
Use the provider’s documented backup process or file-export instructions. Choose a consistent point when changes will not be lost. Keep an unchanged copy outside the running server and include needed settings and extra files.
Test before switching
Restore the backup in a separate environment with a matching version. Check spawn, inventories, builds and permissions. A backup that has never been restored is an unverified fallback. In our server helper, record edition, players, project and migration needs; do not enter passwords. This prepares a local request, not a booked move.
Verify a backup by restoring it
A completed download only proves that you have a file. To establish a useful fallback, check that the world opens with the matching version and preserves important state. Use a copy in a separate test environment; do not overwrite the running world prematurely. Record source software, target software, game version and required extra files. Postpone the switch if problems remain. This checklist is independent of any hosting plan and does not replace software-specific export instructions.

- Record the last complete backup time and assign a responsible person.
- Inform players of the planned switch after testing restoration.
